"Our fourth visit to The Old Co-Op café and we would always make it our first choice of stop to eat heading across to Leeds or the east coast, even if it usually means a detour off the motorway. I've never really thought about it being a veggie café ... (someone mentioned this below) and does it matter if the food is excellent? No, not at all. Plenty of vegan and gluten free options too... Lovely freshly prepared, home-made food. Unusual choices and an excellent and varied menu. Bloomin' marvellous vegan chocolate and beetroot cake :)"
"Did not have high expectations for lunch as no local knowledge but discovered Todmorden and googled cafés there... Loved the hot apple and cinnamon drink too we are not vegetarians but really enjoyed this place - friendly, warm, and fabulous menu. Took cakes home too. Shop downstairs lovely and interesting and the girl serving was very friendly. Wish we lived closer! We would be there every week "
"Gorgeous food, really lovely all the local fresh organic produce that is used. Staff are really helpful and all freshly prepared. Love The Old Co-Op Wholefood shop as well. You can get lots of advice and help. It is a really great relaxing place to eat, feels like you are in one of the very trendy big city eating places. I no longer live in Todmorden but always call when I am visiting Family and Friends. Would highly recommend."
"Visited The Old Co-Op on Saturday after my Incredible Edible tour. The cafe was busy but service quick. I had the soup and pannini offer. Lovely flavoursome Jerusalem Artichoke and sage soup with a falafel pannin. Both served piping hot and delicious. I would recommend to all even meat eaters (like myself) would enjoy the food."
"Never disappointed during our many visits, the love and care in the food really shines through, it's not as cheap as some places but with the quality, local ingredients and catering for a wide range of dietary needs and good environment it's expected."
"Only the second time here, but superb again. I love the variety on the menu, though it does make choosing difficult! Everything is fresh, wholesome and tasty, and very good value. The Bohemian set-up, paired with passionate and efficient staff is also a key part of the enjoyment. Food great, atmosphere great, staff great ... what more can you want?! "
"I often find veggie burgers very bland and uninteresting, and the veggie burger at The Old Co-Op was delicious! Me and my boyfriend visited Todmorden recently and fell in love with it, this cafe and the wholefoods shop below was part of the reason! I think it also helped convince my boyfriend to go veggie! Friendly staff who were chatty and just a wonderful atmosphere, I will be back!"
"What a transformation! The Old Co-Op cafe not only looks amazing but has a fantastic menu, it is leaps and bounds ahead of any of its competitors in both Todmorden and Hebden Bridge. The staff here are great and the chef obviously talented. This is food which is made by people who like food! Veggie food with a bit of heart and soul, I would reccomend this cafe to anyone Well done!"
"I really really enjoy bobbing in here for a Saturday brunch. Though not a vegetarian any more I find the food available on the exciting side. And please don't mention the cakes as I may have to sob aloud at my inability to sample them all!!!!"
"Fantastic food even for a non-veggie! The choice is lovely and the home-made cakes are amazing. A lovely atmosphere in a quirky upper floor space. Licensed too!"
"The cafe is on the first floor and we had a window seat overlooking the high street. The grumpy mule coffee was fantastic (I'm a recent convert to grumpy mule) and my wife commented it was one of the best flat white coffees she had ever drunk."
"There is always some good music playing and the notice board is always chocca with whats going on. Prices are decent s are portions. The staff are always very helpful and you can kind of tell (i could be wrong) that its a nice place to work, they seem chilled out. I know Teal the Aussie guy there is really chilled and lovely to everyone that goes in - especially the babies."
"I'm a carnivore at heart but love visiting this place, great coffee, friendly staff, chilled atmosphere and the food is Fantastic, always try something new and have never once had a bad experience. The food is of the highest quality and the cakes well you simply can't resist them, I also love the fact they support local businesses a great example of ethical, sustainable business done the right way. Never been? Not a Vegetarian? don't worry you won't be disappointed."
"Put simply, The Old Co-Op Cafe is an ethical dream-turned-reality. All produce is sourced locally, the ambience is wonderfully welcoming and the service is impeccable. Realistic prices and tasty and imaginative food and drink too. If only other cafes would follow the fantastic lead set by The Old Co-Op!"
"Exceptional vegetarian cafe, utilising many locally sources products. Exciting & interesting menu, even for carnivores. Friendly staff & relaxed atmosphere; usually busy but tables/sofas are not crushed together. Different components of meals "tantalise the jaded tastebuds" of even the most experienced traveller."
"I must admit to being skeptical as I walked in but after sitting down and taking the first bite of that glorious carrot cake, everything was forgotten. Some truly delicious vegetarian food is offered at this quaint little eaterie and it is most definitely to be recommended."
"Outstanding in every way, if this cafe was in fashionable suburbia the cost of the meal would easily be doubled. Almost all the food is locally sourced and the dishes that are produced are imaginative and incredibly tasty. The ambience, staff and service compliment the very high standard of food."
"Superb cafe, one of my favorites, I have eaten here a number of times and despite being a big meat eater (see my review of Reds in Leeds) I love the food here it is tasty and I leave feeling healthier than I arrived, despite the cake also being very good!"
"The place is beautiful, gorgeous big windows, art on the walls and good atmosphere. Coffee was brilliant, and locally roasted too! I love having options as a vegetarian and my vegan friends even had a wide range if options. I highly recommend the mezze and definitely have a cake for pud!"
"I eat and drink here on a regular basis and reckon The Old Co-Op has the best coffee in town by a mile, Food is fantastic too, veggie, locally sourced food cooked and served with creativity and imagination. Staff warm and friendly too and the location is great, light, airy and a great atmosphere."
"Started with Hummus, Olives and Warm Pitta followed by the Local Ploughmans, vegan sponge cake and Earl Grey tea. We also bought a bowl of marinated sunshine olives - excellent! The Ploughmans was generous, the pickled shallots and chutney went well with the cheese selection, the cheese, onion and ale pie was great – would choose this main course again."
"Everything the reviews I'd read had led me to believe it would be. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food is really good. I've tried both The Old Co-Op Burger and the deli salad - each is delicious. I'm pleased to now be adding my voice to the chorus of praise for Bear Cafe."
"The food is always great. We eat here at least twice a week because the food is just so good. The deli platter is a favourite of ours, but anything is good. In winter the soups are flavoursome and filling: the bread always fresh and chunky."
"They do great specials and their platters are a big recommendation from us. My husband always goes for The Old Co-Op Breakfast - available till they run out. If you like your coffee strong and tough like me try The Old Co-Op's as its fab x Lovely place - fab cake :)"
"Quite often enjoy walking along the canal to Todmorden & popping into The Old Co-Op to watch the world go by whilst enjoying breakfast or cake. Very good selection of salads & cakes but my favourite is a simple garlic mushrooms on toast with a fentimans dandelion & burdock to wash it down. They also do soups & mains."
"I regularly meet with friends for lunch here and always enjoy the food. Particularly love the tabbouleh! My mum is celiac, but can still enjoy a cake with her tea. Occasionally get a takeout lunch, it's made very quickly and I always enjoy it. Friendly, welcoming staff and a nice atmosphere in the coffee shop."
